How long should an adult with Shingles stay away from children that have not had Chicken-pox?
I’ve heard that an adult with Shingles can give chicken-pox to a child, how long after the shingles have cleared is it safe to have a 10 month old baby around them (close contact) ?

I think when the lesions are dried up it is o.k., but check with your local health dept. to be sure.

I think as long as they don’t touch any open sores, but talk to your doctor.

Yes, the above answer is correct. Once the lesions are dried, they are no longer contagious. However, I wouldn’t worry about giving chicken pox to a kid. It’s MUCH better that they get it younger than older. As for the 10 month old, yeah it’s no big deal.

Just go ahead and be around the child. If we keep avoiding people so we don’t expose them to the virus, we prolong the agony.
Anyone remember the emergency play dates Moms would set up when the first kid in the neighborhood broke out? Mom really do know best!
